Mystery Car
So, about 2 months ago a car was parked in our parking lot with its lights still on. A BMW X3 to be exact. Red Bull and iPod still present.
We figured maybe our neighbors in the apartment complex had figured out that our landlord doesn’t pay the closest attention to the parking lot and decided to abuse the system. Only one thing: the car didn’t move. For several weeks, it didn’t move.
After about a month, Charlie and Brian (bless his heart, he was still with us at the time) started to think maybe the car was stolen and dropped off. A possibility I had never thought of, but when they said it, it sure made sense. We had already told our landlord the car was parked there and no one in any of the houses was the owner.
I decided to call Minneapolis 311 – the non-emergency line – and it was the weekend, so I left a detailed phone message with the license plate number and description of the car. I called back a few days later on a weekday and talked with someone. They told me that the only thing to do was the call the tow company and they would run the car and that was the only way to find out.
Well, our landlord wrote a note and put it under the wiper blade saying that if the car wasn’t moved, they would have it towed. They left another note. And today, there was a police officer sitting outside our house, and a tow-truck pulling the car away.
Charlie and I went to the back and we talked with the police officer. He asked how long the car had been parked there, and I said about two months. I told him him everything I just wrote above, and he said in fact, the car had been stolen 2 months back.
Mystery solved. I have to admit, my motives for calling were not entirely pure. I had hoped that if someone owned a BMW X3, a reward might be involved in helping find the car. As it is so far, that will not be the case, but there will be a very happy car-owner with his stolen car found.
Quite a story. All in our backyard.
Laundry and a free day
What a great day. Slept in. Showered for the first time in 3 days. Ha! (I wash my hair everyday but the past 2 mornings I opened at Starbucks, and so I just wash my hair. Today, I realized, “o man, this is my first shower in 3 days!”)
I thought I was going to Chippewa Falls today, but turns out that’s not until tomorrow. Which makes today WIDE open. It’s kinda freeing! I put more power-steering fluid in my car which made me feel like I know something about cars, even though I don’t. And now I’m doing laundry and chillin’.
I Can’t Wait
This year with Jacob’s Well, we will be providing Christmas gifts to children who have parents in prison, blessing a family who needs a lot of loving in a very hard time of life, and looking to raise awareness and give money to the Blood:Water Mission, which is a movement to build clean water wells for communities in Africa who don’t have access to clean water.
Help us take back the story! This is our story to tell. And our story to live. And this is how we worship – with our lives. God forgive us for reducing “worship” down to a few songs and a Sunday Gathering…
Hilarious
I just read the following on my friend John’s blog. If I could retweet it, I would, but instead I will reblog it and cite my source.

Conversation Progress:
1. Bible study on Mark 8.
2. Jesus feeds 4000 people.
3. Sometimes we take simple things like food for granted.
4. Maybe first century Middle-Easterners tracked animals for food while listening to Jesus’ teaching.
5. Maybe if they saw sheep or goats, they would stare at them before harvesting them for sustenance.
6. John: “They were men who stared at goats.”
7. “Men who stare at goats” is a movie (featuring George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, etc), coming out Friday.
8. Chris: “We could go see that this weekend.”
9. “This weekend we are each going to see the same play.”
10. Seth: “What should we do after the play? Can _____ hang out?”
11. “He will probably be busy making out with someone depending on his performance during the play.”
12. Seth: “He might be one of those guys who is always in the mood for making out…sometimes I feel like that.”
13. Chris: “You are always in the mood? Are you sure?” [awkward smirk]
14. John: “Can I quote this on Facebook?”
15. Seth: “The only quote you need on Facebook is: ‘ALL SENIOR CITIZENS SHOULD HAVE LIFE ALERT!’”
16. John: “Did we really just go from Jesus feeding a crowd to Life Alert in rapid succession?”
17. Chris: “How did that happen? [befuddlement]
18. [Seth stares around the room]
19. [John points at Seth]
Tea Garden thoughts
Ever sat at a table with a stranger in a coffee shop? Most of the time, if you’re like me, you look for a small table for two, where you can spread out all of your crap and you take the whole table for yourself.
Today, that wasn’t an option because all those small tables for two were taken. And so I took a bigger table for 4, by myself, and quickly realized I needed to at least leave half of the table in the event that someone may need a place to sit.
And sure enough, someone – a stranger whose name I don’t even know – is sitting caddy-corner from me. I should probably get her name.
Do I need to pay more attention to things like this in my life that could very well be some sort of divine appointment? I’m thinking so. Chances are, all the conversation that will take place will be an exchange of names and to find out what each other is working on. But life’s no fun if you don’t jump on these opportunities to meet new people and make new friends.

Here’s an interesting twist. My friend Chris just sat at my table, but not because of me. Because he knows Moni (name of girl caddy-corner from me). So the girl sitting caddy-corner from me and I were seperated by one degree and didn’t even know it.
HEROES!!!!
I just walked home from work faster than I ever have to catch the latest episode of Heroes with my roommate, Jef! I’m going to be sore from that speed-walking session tomorrow
