I’m overwhelmed today at the thought of all the believers who are lifting me up in prayer.
One story:
I was in Muskogee, OK this summer and ran into Gene, a man in his late 70s, who, that past November, had picked me up from the airport in OKC and driven me to Muskogee. Gene is short. Like 5’7″. And his truck was massive. It was awesome.
I could listen to people like this gentle old man all day. The stories and the wisdom! I love old people.
I was talking with a co-worker at Starbucks, and he was telling me John Elderedge (author of books such as Wild at Heart) and he said John Elderedge calls this elderly people in our lives sages. And he says we all need them. I’m a fan of sages. Sages like Bob Smith, my co-pastor as Jacob’s Well. Younger men should spend time with older men like Bob Smith and Gene Godby. We’d be better for it.
Anyways, I ran into Gene this past July and he told me that ever since he drove me that day in November, he has prayed for me every Wednesday morning. EVERY Wednesday morning?! And he told me he’d keep praying. The man wasn’t even on my email newsletter and he kept faithfully praying for me.
I’m thankful for the prayers of the saints like Gene. The list is really too long.
Thank You God for these people. And for moving through their prayers in my life.
