I receive an email once a week for preachers. I usually don’t read it. But this week the headlines said something about Tiger.
Something you should know: I can’t stand all the Tiger Woods publicity. Let the man and his family have some space. My gosh. We all have made our share of mistakes. I for one am glad my mistakes aren’t publicized all over the news.
Anyways, I was reading this stuff because I was intrigued a preachers magazine would have an article on Tiger. I only read the 1st paragraph, but it was enough for me. The article said many preachers are using this as an opportunity to talk about Tiger’s transgressions. But John Ortberg, pastor and author from California, has turned the question. He is asking his people, “why the fascination with Tiger Woods?”
And I would say the same. I think this is a chance, not to point at the flaws of a particular individual, but to look within, examine our hearts, and ask ourselves, “why are we so fascinated?” I have a feeling the answer may startle us. It may be something we don’t want to be true of ourselves. But when the answer(s) are revealed, we must pray and ask God to help us in our broken condition.
Because God is the ultimate healer and restorer of broken things, and it is only in His power that our lives and our hearts can change.
